Japan to Fund Next Megaproject

Japan will finance a new access bridge from Panama West and a monorail to La Chorrera.

President Ricardo Martinelli says that he is just waiting for confirmation from the Japanese government for the over-$1 billion, 40-year loan with a 10-year grace period and one percent interest.

This project is part of Panama’s overall Metro Line 1 and 2 projects and plans to connect the Northern and Southern Corridors to improve circulation in Panama City.

The president toured Tokyo’s monorail in October of last year.
